Spin Concepts is managed by Daren Headrick, the president and founder of the company. Daren has an extensive, but diverse background in marketing strategy, marketing leadership and execution, and public relations. This includes expertise in various forms of traditional media, events, sponsorships, and online expertise. Experiences range from working with internationally famous brands and celebrities with a much broader scope, to numerous small and localized businesses with a traditional marketing focus. Daren has worked in both client-side corporate marketing leadership positions and on the agency side prior to starting Spin Concepts.
Much of Daren’s experience spans work in the online arena within Web development, publishing, digital property management, and marketing, both prior to starting Spin Concepts and since. In traditional business, Daren is an expert in community and regional marketing strategy and execution, including strong experience in advertising and public relations. Despite his “bigger world” experiences (NASCAR, music industry, TV), a large part of Daren’s career has also been devoted to community and regionally-focused businesses in highly localized markets, helping them succeed in their marketing programs.
Some of Daren’s work includes local and regional marketing strategy, advertising campaigns, non-traditional communications campaigns, grass roots campaigns, public relations strategy, special events and promotions, and numerous other tactics used to help small businesses reach their marketing goals. This includes building, publishing, and managing Web properties and assisting businesses with online marketing strategy.
Spin Concepts’ work has included local and regional community banks, community healthcare providers, local government agencies, local politics, and numerous small to regional-sized businesses. However, some of Daren’s “bigger world” experiences include having worked in the sport of NASCAR with top drivers, teams, and sponsors in both marketing and public relations roles. He also has worked in the international music industry with famous artists, has promoted major concert events, and has even worked in the outdoor sports industry as the brand manager for a popular international hunting TV show airing on cable networks. Daren has worked with national media and regional media alike, from public relations exposure and brand management for celebrity clients, to advertising procurement and placement for smaller companies.
Daren’s professional online marketing career began in 1998 with the likes of then top racing properties such as JeffGordon.com and PettyRacing.com, among others at a time when he also served as a driver publicist in the NASCAR Busch Series. He gained some of this experience working for a now defunct Web company that was focused on the sport of NASCAR, as well as with a well-known marketing expert that owned a small agency focused on athlete management and marketing. He later would go on to work in the music industry, at one point procuring and managing a key online sponsorship by an early iteration of Music.com for an independent band / artist. He also has led tours for major artists abroad and promoted independent concert events.
Daren holds the highly rated bachelor’s degree in public relations from Grady College at the University of Georgia, home of the coveted Peabody Awards. He also holds a master’s degree in education from Lee University. His background in education provides unique insights with how people learn, behave, and retain knowledge, which is applicable to the marketing process in many ways. This also means Daren is in a very unique position to understand how companies can educate and market, first, to one of their greatest assets — their employees and internal stakeholders — that then can positively affect their most important asset, their customers. His professional education expertise is also invaluable when it comes to teaching and coaching his clients about the value of marketing, their brand, and helping to direct their future business growth. Daren enjoys taking an educational approach to consulting with his clients, believing that empowerment and involvement are two key ingredients for successful collaboration.
Daren also loves real estate and was a novice investor for over a decade. Interestingly, he now also holds a real estate license in the state of Georgia and is affiliated with PalmerHouse Properties in Atlanta. However, he practices real estate marketing as an agent out of his Ringgold, GA team office. “I am extremely passionate about the real estate business; I loved working with personal real estate investments so much that I pursued my real estate license, to help expand my marketing career in that area,” he says. He is now a respected agent in his market, selling over $5M / year in residential, investment, and land transactions.
Spin Concepts was formed in 2003 as a marketing communications agency. Over time, the company’s capabilities have evolved to include marketing strategy and full-service corporate marketing, advertising, public relations, Web marketing, and a variety of professional Web-based design, development, and online media property management services.
